BEAS DE SEGURA

Beas is located in the north of Jaen a city of Aldalucía..It is included in the Segura range. The river Guadalimar pass through it.Here you can find a lot of different things to do .You can go for a walk and see the old buildings , the parks or go to bars a very typical thing there.

I am going to speak about some aspects that  are very common there like food ,holy week ,buildings and  feasts .

Food:
Beas is very famous of producing morcilla blanca or negra (black puding). Everybody loves it and if you comes to Beas is a must to taste it and also the migas.
Another very famous thing is the oil. Jaen has a lot of hectares of olive tree.I think almost everybody lives of oil there .It is really good and is different from another one you'll taste .People usually buy a lot of oil cans .

Monuments:
There are a lot of monuments but some are:

The convent of the carmelitas

The front of the old courthouse.

The monument of a very famous feast in Beas that is San Marcos that takes place in the center of the town and it is usually in April. And consists in running before bulls like the San Fermines but normally the people get into the river to be safer and It is very common that the bulls fall into the river .

I mentioned the importance of the oil in Beas and because of that they have a monument in the entrance of Beas for everybody to see it when they arrive to Beas.It is the machine where they used to grind the olives to made oil.

The monumental fountain that is to remind the floods that were in 1955 and consists in three figures sculpted in stone and look like this.

El Callejon de la risa.It is a passage that gets narrower as long as you pass through it and is very funny anybody can pass through it with the umbrella for example and they get wet.

And also I would like to mention the arquitecture because it is very famous almost every house there its front is unfinish and It is something that people laugh at because you can see the bricks and it is a thing that you get shoked if It is the first time you visit the village.

Feasts:

San Marcos .I think It is the most popular one .It is very dangerous because the streets of the village are narrow so a lot of people that take part here have to pass so sometimes a bull catches a runner .

Holy week:
In Beas there are really beautiful processions. There are fourteen divided in Passion, Death and Resurrection.
But my favourite one is the one that my grandfather Roque Frías refounded after the civil war and my uncle donate the silver guide cross. The image disappeared during the civil war but finally my grandfather reorganised the procession. It is called Nuestro Padre Jesús Preso and almost all my family are member of that procession.I must say before you see it that he has a horror sense of fashion choosing the clothes.

To conclude I hope you will like my presentation of Beas .It is different from any part of the world .I hope you will visit it because you will like it.

WHAT'S IN THE JAR?

In th last few weeks we had been working in a charity project that consists on doing an activity to raise money for Cáritas.

First,we made groups of four or five people and each one had to look for information about different charities in England .Each group was given a topic like people in need, animals ,environment ,etc. and discuss them in groups to see what of the charities was the best one to do our project.

The second step was to do a power point with the information of the charity and some ideas of activities in order to do it and raise money.I must say there were brilliant ideas like races with pets or  a sing star . The activity that won was mine and consist on filling up a huge jar with tones of sweets and the person who was going to participate had to pay one euro and say the number aproximately of candies that were in the jar.

Afterwards came the hard work like contact the director of Cáritas , write letters to the principal teacher to ask permission to take tables and  those things. Then with the permission we started promoting the activity putting posters all over the school and sending whatsapp messages .

We did the activity on different days in order to cover the principal part and the attached building .We earned more than one hundred euros and the director of Cáritas was very happy with us .

We gave the prize some days later and the winner was Paula Ruiz .We are very happy because we had helped poor people and we alson had eaten candies too.
